First-draft code is cheap; poorly architected code becomes the most toxic line item in the estate. By year two, code generated without governance drives maintenance to four times the level of conventional development.

When agents act autonomously on critical systems, engineering becomes more important, not less. GenAI does not remove the engineer's craft: it makes it indispensable.

On regulated topics, it is the expert who augments GenAI: they bring the context, constraints and intent that no model can guess. GenAI amplifies what it receives.

GenAI can undo twenty years of alignment. It must run through the disciplines that aligned the CIO function (platform, governance, mapping) instead of bypassing them.

Augmenting a poorly designed process makes inefficiency faster. Before automating, you must understand and question it: sometimes remove the process rather than augment it.

Shadow AI scatters data, costs and compliance. Our role: make the CIO function fast enough to become the chosen partner again, not the bottleneck people work around.

An enterprise application processes regulated data and carries legal responsibilities: faster to produce thanks to GenAI, but more disciplined, never disposable.

Expertise remains indispensable, but it must be plural: several peaks of deep mastery, connected to one another, rather than a single summit or a flat line.
